"Ryu ga Gotoku" (literally "Like a Dragon") is a best-seller SEGA video game on PS2, which is also popular in the U.S. with English title "YAKUZA". And now the popular maverick in Japanese movie world Takashi Miike has made it into a feature film. Its screening event was held on Jan. 29, with a big team of cast members, Kazuki Kitamura, Goro Kishiya, Saeko, Shun Shioya, Gong Yuu and Miike appearing on stage. See photos HERE and HERE.
The leading actors Kitamura and Kishiya both expressed the difficulty of playing characters which are already strongly established in the video game. Miike said, "I think this will be another 'what the hxxx is this!?' type of film. You either love it or hate it." And asked what he would emphasize to female moviegoers, "The bodies that make you feel like touching. (laughs)"
OMG, Miike-san, that is too tempting...
The film is scheduled to open on March 3, 2007 in Japan, and is produced and distributed by Toei, who is also relatively weak now but used to be strong in Yakuza movies.
