Bunshun Raspberry Awards announced

Just as there is Japan Academy Awards to U.S. Oscars, there is Bunshun Raspberry Awards to Golden Raspberry Awards in the US.  Just as its US model, Japan's Bunshun Raspberry Awards are given to the worst movies in the year selected by 32 movie critics in Japan.

Here are the honorable winners of the year's worst movies among the movies (both foreign and Japanese) released in Japan in 2006.  (All the films without country name are Japanese.)

1.  Tales from Earthsea  69 points
2.  Sinking of Japan  38
3.  Da Vinci Code (US) 27
4.  Nada Soso  20
5.  The Promise (China)  17
6.  Umizaru 2:  Test of Trust  13
7.  Now and Forever (Korea)  12
8.  Rough  11
9.  Angel-A (France)  11
10.  Christmas on July 24th Street  10

Worst Actress:   Masami Nagasawa
Worst Actor:  Tom Hanks
Worst Director:  Goro Miyazaki

The judges are generally very critical to the TV-to-movie combination films, such as Umizaru 2.

If you take a crayon drawing or napkin scribble created by Pablo Picasso and judged his quality based on that drawing it is the same as scoffing at Gedo Senki/Goro Miyazaki. Gedo Senki was a great animation by most artistic standards, but it was not as seasoned as other Ghibli/Hayao/Isao films. A person has to start somewhere. Goro purposefully paid homage to older 60's/70's cartoon styles to get the job done.

This is an unfair judgement.

i let the 'tom hunks' one go - he's kind of a masculine, fine looking man after all :)

Tom Hunks? Isn't he a porn star?

Or do you mean Tom Hanks? ;)

Thanks for pointing out. I changed it.

thats either some very obscure movie called 'angela' or its actually 'angel-a'??
